This week our “Pick” is going to Discogs. It’s The Mugwumps, who are the Mugwumps you might ask. Well, in the summer of 1964, before they were part of the Mamas and the Papas, Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty along with Jim Hendricks (The Lamp of Childhood) and Zal Yanovsky (The Lovin’ Spoonful) got together to record these nine songs. In these early recordings it is easy to see that these people were on their way to greatness. It is folk, pop and full of heart.
This week I have something special that has been in the shop for a while and has been overlooked; as far as the Pick of the Week goes. It is a 1965 First Mono pressing of the Beatles Help album. There are many different pressings of all of the Beatles albums; collectors always favor the first pressings. Mono pressings of 1960’s records are usually desirable, depending on the production quality and re-channeling of the original recordings.
This week, since there has been so much talk about the Beatles and the 50th anniversary of their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. I bring you, from 1965, the sixth Beatles album aptly titled Beatles 6. This copy is in very good condition and would be a great addition to your Fab Four collection.
